Android over the iPhone

Should you consider an Android Phone over the iPhone

Along  with all the other reasons including New Age Apps, Open Source OS and an ever growing list of cool new phones designed specifically for the Android OS; another reason why Android’s reach is growing stronger in the Market place is that it is one of the few handful OSs which will allow its Canadian Users to make free Voice-Over-Internet phone calls. Yes you understood this correctly … the iPhone though it supports a Skype app worldwide, will not allow its Canadian Users to make VoIP phone calls to other VoIP Users via the wireless WAN.

Even Blackberry will be launching their Skype supporting app in May of this year. Windows ME/CE users can already use this technology. But the iPhone … well I guess we Canadians are not a big enough market for them to launch yet another cool new technology. Now even these Tecnology Leaders are not allowing Canadians to use the technology completely such as Blackberry’s Canadian Users will only be allowed to use the Skype service for Instant messaging or to receive calls from Skpye users worldwide. They will not be able to make free calls but instead can do so by using the Skype Out service which is a paid service which allows its users to make out going calls to regular land lines and mobile devices.

Current Canadian Skype users are unable to use the Skype In service which allows its desktop users to receive incoming calls from regular land lines and mobile devices as the CRTC regulations requires all phone service operators to offer enhancd 911 services,  which allows the operator to locate its caller.

Despite this variation in services at least the other phone Operators are trying to offer the Canadian market whatever level of service they can … the iPhone on the other hand … not so much.

To let you understand the grasp of the usage of this VoIP technology, last year alone people worldwide spent over 33 billion minutes talking to each other over Skype. That is more time than any long-distance service provider worldwide.

Just something else to consider when looking for a new phone in 2009 – 2010.

I am glad that someone else feels the way I do about the iPhone and how they are neglecting their Canadian consumers. I was tossed up about an Android phone or a Blackberry … this article made the difference. I am going with the Android phone. I currently use Skype on my desktop and the ffact that I can send messages to my friends on using it makes a huge difference. Thanks kryptonshero great article
