So what happened to the real estate business?

Pretty sure two of you guys had your own show where you buy, destroy and sell houses. How did you get from flipping houses to a cell phone website? Why no mention of this on the Dragon’s Den?

Pretty lucky to get from one reality tv show to the next. Love to know the real story. If this cell phone thing doesn’t work out, you can always launch a kid in a balloon…

Thanks Andrew, good question. Kye and I fell into the Real Estate business. We decided to get into flipping houses as a side gig to hopefully make some extra money to put into our newest venture, myCELLmyTERMS. We planned on just one house in the first year.

Our very first project was a 600 square foot bungalow that we added a second storey to. This almost tripled the size of the house. Both Kye and I did not have any background in building houses, but we decided that if we were going to learn how to do this, that we should learn from the ground up. We raised the main floor to allow an 8 foot ceiling in the basement, completely gutted the entire house, including all electrical and plumbing and added a second storey. While we were working on our first project we were approached by several people, telling us that The BIG Flip was looking for two new hosts. We met the producer, she asked us if we could do four houses in a year, we said yes, not knowing any better, and the rest is history. We successfully bought, renovated and sold the four properties and a made a profit. The Big Flip is one of HGTV’s most successful shows to date.

Kye, myslef and our team believe that anything is possible. We are determined to grow anything we touch into a success. myCELLmyTERMS.com was created to help all Canadians looking for a better deal when it comes to their cell phone and plans. Hi guys, saw you on DDen recently (replay) and it was great! Like SO many Canadians (& I can certainly speak for my friends and family) I have been FRUSTRATED (understatement) for YEARS w. my crappy cell phone plan and how expensive it is. My cousins in UK, can’t believe how much we pay over here.

LIke many I’ve been gouged repeatedly by Rogers yet never had time to do something about it (its SO awful to deal with them, that you cringe at the thought, nevermind we are all so busy and overwhelmed these days, its just keeps getting pushed off the “priority” radar) — Nevermind, the numerous mistakes and terrible service I’ve had w. Rogers, which forced me to make MANY frustrating phone calls (a cpl of which led me to tears, and I know I’m not the only one – I even found a website “IhateRogers.com” and was BLOWN away by the MANY terrible stories!) dealing w. many mostly terrible reps (its clear they hate their jobs, who would blame them?) who gave me the run around, even though I have been a loyal customer for over 11yrs and a Rogers VIP customer for many of those years (yes, I had FOUR services w. Rogers – Internet, Cell,Cable and Landline, hard to believe)):- and you certainly wouldn’t know by the way I was treated.

Now, I have finally made it a priority to deal with this, as I’ve recently left my Corporate Job and started my own business and have different cell phone plan needs ie. more daytime minutes (getting EXTRA GOUGED for those now, even tho I do everything I can, NOT to use them unless I have to, which in itself sucks, why should I have to limit myself, esp. with a new business?!) and my 3yr contract w. these Criminals, ends in May/11 (YAY! altho I would gladly have paid a penalty to get OUT, as they continue to GOUGE me, I would have saved waaay more $ with another co./plan, just haven’t had time to research and make calls/visits to the numerous cell phone co’s like Public Mobile, Virgin, etc. that now exist, to figure out the best plan for me)

Anyhow, needless to say, I and am excited to try your services. While googling I found an advocacy website that mentioned your deal on DDen and wondered if that’s part of your marketing pls (it would also help us consumers out!)? I bet (Arlene, from DDen should know this) it would be GREAT to include in your marketing/advertising – U can reach out to ppl’s frustrations and serious loss of funds (due to ridiculously HIGH costs of cell phone plans here,

I’m sure you’ve heard the HORROR stories, infact, just saw on TV, that a special is going to be on CBC Marketplace soon on some stories of regular ppl, incl. small biz ppl. going thru HELL w. unbelievable cell phone bills)WHO has time to deal w. these incompetent, crappy customer, price gougling companies, that essentially have a monopoly on the market in Canada?!!

Anyhow, looking fwd to trying your services and GETTING A GREAT CELL PHONE PLAN that meets my needs and is FAIR, for once. Thanks, and best of luck to your company, you can be the voice for so many disgruntled customers, from all walks of life – doesn’t matter if you’re a Doctor or a Teenager, we all have a cell phone these days and we all PAY TOO MUCH.
