Quick side-by-side comparison of the BlackBerry Bold & the BlackBerry Bold 9700

The new BB Bold 9700 is RIM’s latest flagship device. The Bold 9700 is slightly smaller than the older BB Bold by about 5-7% (i.e. Length, Height, Depth) but has a much sleeker look and feel than its predecessor.

Beyond the smaller size, the first thing you will notice is the new track pad as opposed to the older track ball. For those of you who have had problems in the past with the track ball this is a welcome change. For those stuck with the older BB Bold for now, a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip seems to be the remedy of the day for the track ball problems.

Everything is pretty much in the same place as the older BB Bold however the SD card is inserted under the battery panel.  The track pad on the BB Bold 9700 is way more responsive than the previous track ball and the latest operating system is lightning quick. Whether you are searching for music, watching videos or doing the regular BB things you will notice the difference in speed, so hats off to RIM.

Before we delve into it further, both devices do all the common things for any smart phone, like phone capability, web browsing, email, SMS, MMS, media player and video recording. So what better than to put these two devices in a side-by-side comparison with the things that matter most and highlight any key differences between the two models.

The older BB Bold still holds it own and is a well-respected device. The BB Bold 9700 just takes things to another level with the subtle enhancements that make a world of difference. For some one like myself who has had the luxury of using this device for the last couple weeks going back will be very difficult, if not impossible.
