Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Sony Ericsson is no stranger to the Android mania that is quickly spreading through the wireless landscape. Set to unveil its first Android phone in early 2010 nicknamed “Rachael” but officially named the Xperia X10 Sony Ericsson, now join the ranks of handset makers such as Motorola and HTC in using the Google Android operating system. The phone runs on Android 1.6 platform which is one step down from the latest Android Version 2.0 and features a new user interface called UX.

Now, the UX Interface has 2 cool features that stand out and make the Sony Xperia X10 experience a unique and worth while one to have, at least for me. MediaScape is essentially your all-in-one media center which allows you to manage all kinds of content from your phone, whether it be Youtube or any other media portal. TimeScape on the other hand, is your integrated contacts manager that consolidates your conversations and communications with a person. Be it on facebook, text, phone or email, you can view them all in one place per person.

The camera features are quite impressive with an 8.1-megapixel camera with auto focus, face recognition, flash, smile-detection and video recording with video light. Sure sounds like you have a full fledge camera tucked away in your pocket. Not to mention 4 inch WVGA touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth A2DP, Google Maps, GPS, 3.5 mm headset jack and also comes standard with an 8 GB microSD card. Sorry no physical QWERTY keypad, the phone is pretty thin – only half an inch so no room for hiding.

It is not all fanfare without the price. It is highly speculated that the phone will cost $879 without a contract making it easily one of the most expensive Android Phones to date. Clearly the hefty price tag makes you wonder even with the Sony name and quality it is known for, how well it will do in the market place. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
