The incumbent carriers have been overcharging for years. I recently came back from a visit to the UK where I bought a new prepaid SIM card for 99p (about CDN $1.60) and texts were 4p and all calls including from UK to Canada were 4p/min (CDN $0.06). As far as I know the prepaid top-up didn't have an expiry date. www.lycamobile.co.uk, in case anyone is interested. Oh for the day when cheap prepaid comes to Canada. Paying less than $15 per month with any of the carriers will be dificult to do on a post paid plan. It sounds like you are an ideal candidate for pre-paid service and although you might have to purchase a device first they are very cost effective and this may still work out better for you in the long run.
