Definition of Nexus - the means of connection between things linked in series.

nexusSo, what is this Nexus One? Rumour, hype, myth or legend? This phone is currently not available but is causing a buzz not heard since the Apple iPhone in 2007. Its being tested by Google employees and strikes similarities to the Apple iPhone, but will this be considered another iPhone killer?
Questions, questions, questions. Well, what do we know. Its operating system is Google. The Android 2.1. The manufacturer, contrary to original reports is actually HTC, who also make the Dream and Hero, there operating systems are Google. The phone will be unlocked, which is huge, for those unfamiliar of phones being unlocked it simple means Google is saying buy our phone, but use it on your terms, which in first person writing is really myCellmyTerms.

Running on the GSM/HSPA network, built in 5megapixel camera with LED flash, a 3.7inch touch screen, memory capacity up to 32gb, Wi Fi, bluetooth, speaker phone, all sorts of webOS goodies, Google docs, Google voice, GPS…phew. What else? The what else is how will this all be packaged. As part of the rumours, the Nexus One, won’t be following traditional cellphone subsidy strategies.

That “unlocking” mentioned earlier hints to the ability for the phone to be used on your carrier, but also on VoIP, such as the Gizmo5(which is also Google). What about pricing, some sites have reported that with no contract the phone will sell for $530, on contract about $180, yes that is currently U.S. dollars, because much like most cellphone launches Canada will see it sometime later. Stay tuned.

Now, how does it all perform. While specs are being updated all the time as to the talk time and battery life the 1400mAh Li-Ion battery should boast talk time of up to 5hours and standby 300hours. For those familiar with touch screen interfaces, my guess is that transition from screen to screen will be effortless, graphics mesmerizing, and we have not gotten to the apps yet. Oh, forgot to mention another known, how it looks. Again similar styling to that of the Apple iPhone, Nokia N97, Samsung Omnia with a Black Berry track ball, the colour has a grey charcol look.

So, it looks good, sounds good, priced good, loaded with Google goodies, already marketed good. All Google interconnected system, docs, etc…what’s the missing link?
When will The Nexus One Finally be here.
