Smartphones, SuperPhones, Smartphone LTE Devices, 3D Phones …… and the list goes on. It’s all coming to Canada just in time for back to school. Android devices continue to dominate the Market with staggering 10 of the 15 cell phones listed below running on “Gingerbread” or at least “Froyo”. BlackBerry also officially announced its new suite of touch screen devices, with Nokia not being left out with the upcoming arrival of Nokia X7 running Symbian Anna OS on Rogers Network. The one category missing from this line-up is Window Phone 7 devices. No mention yet of any new WP 7 devices slated for Canada in the coming weeks. Also ,not forgetting the rumour that iPhone 5 will be here in the Fall, which could be a real game changer. Nonetheless, exciting times ahead for the cell phone industry with June/July typically being the slowest months of the year for retailers, it looks like Q3 will be hot for sales.

It’ official, RIM has a new line up of BlackBerry devices on the launch pad ready for lift-off. Most Canadians hope this is not the last but the first of many more historic launches unlike the last flight of Atlantis on its final mission for NASA’s Space Shuttle Program.

Can the newly launched BlackBerry Playbook stackup?
Playbook announced for Canada and the US
RIM announced the release of its long awaited BlackBerry Playbook earlier today. It will be available in over 20,000 retail outlets in the US and Canada according to RIM’s press release. RIM is teaming up with a large group of retailers and wireless carriers including, Bell, Rogers, TELUS, Wind and Videotron along with retail giants Futureshop/Best Buy, Stables, The Source, Costco and WalMart. The Playbook is priced at $499 which is close to the iPad 2 ($499 in the US and $519 in Canada). The 7″ version is going to be available on April 19 in Canada and the US. No word yet on when the 10″ version will be available. The Playbook is available in 3 versions, the 16GB model for $499, the 32GB model for $599 and the $64 model for $699 (see table below). You can preorder the device through Best Buy’s and Futureshop’s website.
