The BlackBerry PlayBook is almost here – almost

With the BlackBerry PlayBook not launching until April 19th in North America, you have to wonder if anyone really cares at this point.  April 19th seems like an eternity to wait for a device that we have been hearing about for almost a year.   So to finally get the press release from RIM, announcing 20,000 points of distribution sounds impressive, however, if the delay to launch was due to RIM trying to get that many vendors on board I think it was a huge mistake.  Perhaps I’m wrong and they just couldn’t get it in market any sooner.  Either way it’s still a huge loss to launch a month later than the iPad2 in Canada and almost two months late in the US and at the same price point as the iPad2.  I really don’t understand the pricing strategy given that Apple owns the mind share in this category and the PlayBook needs to pair with a BlackBerry device in order to access cellular networks.  So what do you think, will the BlackBerry PlayBook Boom or Bust?

iPad vs iPad 2 – What’s the difference?

Apple released the latest version to its super successful tablet, the iPad2 which went on sale on March 11 in the US.  The iPad 2 is expected to be on sale in Canada on March 25th.  If you are like me you will be asking yourself, should I stick with the iPad or should I upgrade to the iPad2? We have our big screen televisions, we’ve got our laptops, we have our smartphones and now we’ve got tablet PCs.  The reason for this blog is based on my personal experience and the big question is, how practical are tablets really?  As much as I inquire with people that own tablets, as to what they do with them, I invariably get a few answers. One of which is, to present things to people (photos) or read books.  When I ask them have you ever done a presentation on your tablet?, the answer is – No.   Given my own personal experience, I started asking myself, are tablet PCs really just a want versus a need?  Could the Apple brand machine be creating this desire to own a tablet altogether?

The HP TouchPad Tablet

Posted on February 23rd, 2011Kye Husbands

The HP TouchPad is another tablet computer about to enter the seemingly overcrowded tablet market, despite the fact that many of the tablets that continue to garner the lion’s share of buzz are yet to launch.  Namely the BlackBerry Playbook, Motorola Xoom, Apple’s iPad2 and Samsung’s Galaxy S II.  So what does HP have in store for us? Well, in short – a very well equipped tablet PC to compete with the likes of Apple – in some respects.

Which tablet should I choose?

That’s the question that will become more and more common as the tablet industry kicks into high gear this year.  We will try to help you answer that question with this blog post featuring a side-by-side comparison of the top three tablet computers to watch out for in 2011.

  1. The Apple iPad is the standard for tablet computers.  With more than 17 million iPads sold to date and the iPad2 in Canada as of March 25 Apple has clearly set the pace.
  2. BlackBerry is still a giant in the smart phone space and the BlackBerry PlayBook, widely viewed as runner up of the CES 2011 Best of Tablet Award, is a highly anticipated tablet from RIM.
  3. The Motorola Xoom is the unknown kid on the block for many, but with its recent crowning at CES 2011 – Best of Show Award – and Android’s latest operating system optimized for tablets, this tablet will head up the Android attack this year.
