Should I switch from the BlackBerry?
Is the BlackBerry right for me?
Last year we were inundated with negatives news about RIM and the BlackBerry, and while that was the case there are still 75 million BlackBerry subscribers and many die hard Blackberry users and enthusiast who can’t live without their BlackBerry cellphone. Even Barack Obama is on the BlackBerry bandwagon, so for all those who say BlackBerry is dead, there will likely be 75 million objections. The truth is BlackBerry has a niche and fills a specific purpose while other phones like the iPhone and Android fill another need altogether.
2011 was a GRIM year at RIM
Many will agree that RIM dominated the 2011 headlines with negative news after negative news. It seemed that the Canadian technology company could not catch a break in most news circles. What does your ideal BlackBerry Cell phone look like?
What do you want in your BlackBerry?
With all the recent talk about the premature death of the BlackBerry and in the wake of their recent AGM, what would your ideal blackberry cell phone look, and feel like. I’ll be interested in your thoughts, but let me start things off, as a BlackBerry fan myself and what I would like to see in the next BlackBerry is…
To RIM from a concerned Canadian
RIM’s future will hurt Canadian Pride
I just returned from a trip to California, home to some of the biggest companies in the world – Google, Apple, Facebook, eBay, NetFlix, Zynga to name a few – and it was an enlightening trip to say the least. While en-route, I observed what appeared to be an abnormally high number of people that were all part of the white head phone wearing, or white AC cord charging tribe. It seemed like everyone was part of the – you guessed it – Apple tribe. Like any good business person, we want numbers; after all, numbers don’t lie. So while waiting for my connecting flight in the Dallas airport (Major international hub by the way) I decided to move my analysis from anecdotal to empirical. In other words, I was determined to get some metrics to share with my team and prove my observation right or wrong. So I literally used the time (4 hour stop over) to count the type of smartphone devices people were using. Here are the results from my observations:
10 Blackberry Apps you can’t live without!

My Favourite Blackberry Apps
Any blackberry aficionado will tell you that in order to really get the true value of a blackberry you have to load applications. It’s simply a must! The blackberry app portal is growing daily with lots of cool apps from free to paid applications that would enhance your cell phone or smartphone experience. This list represents my favourite applications and includes some must haves.
Before I begin, in order to benefit from blackberry apps you should have blackberry app world installed on your phone. This is the easiest way to get find, download and use these applications.
One other point to note is that these applications leverage your data service on your device so it’s important to understand how much data your need so you don’t end up paying too much in the process.
Why I prefer my Blackberry over the iPhone!
Its simple. Productivity.
This is not meant to be a features based comparison between the iPhone and one of Blackberry’s leading devices, the Bold. And its not meant to describe which unit has the coolest games or nicest apps or any of those items. Cause if it was, then hands down the iPhone would win out (well maybe not hands down).
Its simply about getting stuff done and in a simple and convenient way. No smartphone out there can compare with the blackberry smartphones for email functionality, the BIS and BES toolkit takes email with its push technology to another level. It always amazes me that I get the email first on my Blackberry device before I receive it on my desktop computer. Now that’s efficient.
iPhone or Blackberry

If someone were to ask what the greatest invention of the 21st Century would be, I would respond, “the iPhone. Hands down.” What other device or invention lets you have unlimited access to boundless information in the palm of your hand? Sure there are other hand held devices that claim to do what the iPhone does, but none can compare to the ease of use and intelligent user interface. The touch screen is so precise, you are able to click on links that are as small as a pin head. Read the rest of this entry »
