Why you don’t want an Apple iPad!

10 reasons to skip the iPad this year

On Wednesday, Jan 27 – Steve Jobs unveiled Apple’s new device the iTampon, I mean the iPad (sorry bad joke and it has been overdone) with alot of hoopla and media attention that no one does better than Apple. When the iPhone came out it was truly revolutionary – it changed the cell phone game but this device, the iPad is not likely to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor.

Why not? Well for one the smartphone market was (and still is) taking off and Apple entered the game late after RIM had demonstrated that the cell phone market was going to Smartphones in a big way. But the iPad is not a smartphone it’s a tablet PC or Apple’s iTablet. And tablet PCs have been around for more than a decade already and it hasn’t caught on. So Apple is attempting to drive a new category. What that category is – is not clear. I’ve heard  – it’s not a smartphone and it’s not an eBook – so its a Smartbook.  I’ve heard that it is in the netbook category and I’ve also heard of course that it’s in the tablet category. Whichever category it’s in, this is more niche that mass.

How to Dry a Wet iPhone

Posted on October 21st, 2009Paul Peic

Don’t panic there is hope… well sort of.

wet iphone

I recently got caught in the rain on my motorcycle. I didn’t realize that my iPhone was in an outside pocket that didn’t have a waterproof liner. I rode home in the pouring rain for over an hour. When I finally got home the phone was still on and drenched. The phone was so wet there was water dripping from the bottom of the phone. I immediately turned the phone off and begun to dry it with a towel. I removed the SIM card and noticed that the water had gotten into the phone. I got out a blow dryer and begun to blow cool air into the phone from every opening. (Never use hot air as there are several sensitive areas that use a delicate adhesive that may loosen and cause more damage). I continued drying the iPhone for 2 hours, alternating the direction of the air from the top of the device to the bottom. Read the rest of this entry »

iPhone Coming to Bell and Telus?

Apple iPhone may be available on all 3 networks

Rumors are that both Bell and Telus will have the iphone by the beginning of next year. If this does happen we will be one of the only countries in the world that Apple has negotiated a muti carrier deal. There are good signs that these rumors might be true. Bell and Telus have already entered into an agreement to join forces to develop a nation wide GSM based HSPA 3G network by Q4. This network doesn’t come cheap at a cost of US $1 Billion dollars shared equally by the two partners. This will end the 7 year monopoly that Rogers has had in the GSM field.

Apple is likely to introduce the next generation iPhone 3Gs to Rogers, Bell and Telus, all at the same time. The ideal situation would be to launch the network as well as the newest iPhone by the 2010 Olympics. Both Bell and Telus will greatly benefit from all the incoming roaming revenues from international customers and new market entrants in Canada. Currently Rogers rakes in close to US $500 Million in roaming revenues each year. Read the rest of this entry »

Why I prefer my Blackberry over the iPhone!

Its simple. Productivity.bb_bold9000

This is not meant to be a features based comparison between the iPhone and one of Blackberry’s leading devices, the Bold. And its not meant to describe which unit has the coolest games or nicest apps or any of those items. Cause if it was, then hands down the iPhone would win out (well maybe not hands down).

Its simply about getting stuff done and in a simple and convenient way.  No smartphone out there can compare with the blackberry smartphones for email functionality, the BIS and BES toolkit takes email with its push technology to another level.  It always amazes me that I get the email first on my Blackberry device before I receive it on my desktop computer.  Now that’s efficient.

iPhone or Blackberry

If someone were to ask what the greatest invention of the 21st Century would be, I would respond, “the iPhone. Hands down.” What other device or invention lets you have unlimited access to boundless information in the palm of your hand? Sure there are other hand held devices that claim to do what the iPhone does, but none can compare to the ease of use and intelligent user interface. The touch screen is so precise, you are able to click on links that are as small as a pin head. Read the rest of this entry »
